The Origin Story
I’ve been a Money Rebel and living life as my own boss since 2015. But before that? I was just a Midwestern (Iowa) girl, born into welfare and poverty, easily set to follow the path that came with that life.
Labeled “loud, bossy, messy, unrealistic,” I never quite fit in. Deep down, I knew I was meant for something more. I wanted my life to be big, bold, and different—but I had no clear example of what living the dream looked like. All I had were examples of what not to do.
Cue my teenage rebellious phase, filled with attempts to find my way and figure out who I was. My life got messy and complicated, with pressure coming from every direction not to “end up like my parents.” One teacher even flat out told me I’d become a drug addict like my mom.
But I refused to let others define me or put limits on what I could achieve. I made a pact with myself to break the generational curses of poverty and everything that came with it.
I was going to rebel against the life that was expected for me. And I decided that money would be the resource that helped me do it.

It All Started with a Sink Full of Dirty Dishes.
I was the first woman on my mom’s side of the family to graduate from high school, and that was just the beginning.
At 22, I found myself working as a front desk hotel worker with a crappy boss while trying to make it through college. I was stuck, knowing I wanted more but unsure how to get it.
One day during finals week, I got extremely sick. I started desperately calling around local cleaning companies asking if someone could do my dishes. Every place I called charged over $90 an hour and refused to do a customized service — even when I offered to pay more. Phone call after phone call, I ended up with the same answer: no.
Insert aha, lightbulb moment. I thought to myself “I know how to clean really well, I’ve been cleaning houses and hotel rooms since I was 14 years old. If they won’t do this, I’ll open up my own cleaning business that offers customized cleaning options and I’ll do it better than them.”
So, in May of 2015, with just $100 to my name, I did exactly that. I launched my first business, a cleaning service, with a promise to myself: I would be the one to create the rules for my life, and take control of my schedule and freedom.

From Nashville to Scotland—running a global business my way
Starting Money Rebel gave me the freedom to live and work from anywhere in the world. I’ve moved to places like Nashville and Colorado, road tripped on a whim, and wake up each morning excited to do whatever I want.
In 2022, I accomplished my biggest dream—moving to Scotland with my dog, Howard.
Nowadays you can find me living a cozy life in Scotland, learning how to drive on the opposite side of the road, crossing castles off my bucket list, and desperately googling “where to buy GTS Kombucha in the UK” (you can’t). I’m adjusting to this whole “Midwestern girl living in a foreign country" thing.
I get to run my business from Scotland and live a freedom-filled life while helping other women turn their entrepreneurial dreams into a thriving businesses. Talk about a win-win.
